Maintaining perspective…

Jerry Pournelle offers an unique perspective on The Great Alien Invader Demonstration, today:

Today is supposed to have a demonstration of how awful life will be if all the illegal aliens take off.

In Southern California, at least, this has been a good day: the freeways were clear, the traffic was low, people were driving rationally. It took us well under 3 hours to get home from San Diego, and the radio reports tell us of freeways the way they were in the 1980’s. The Macdonalds in El Toro may have been understaffed, but not greatly so.

I could live this way for a long time. The freeways were not designed to accommodate millions of illegal aliens, just as our hospital system was not designed for that kind of non-paying traffic.

Could they continue this rally for the rest of the summer?

All I can add is, “Heh. Indeed.”

Mending Walls—keeping their word

Although the very idea of keeping one’s word is a “wall” our entire society needs to mend, what of our leaders? Isn’t their responsibility as examples, as leaders important? What of the oath of office President Bush (and before him, Clinton, Bush I and President Reagan, et al) took upon ascending to office?

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

How does that square with the last 30 years’ pandering to illegal aliens? Was Reagan actually “faithfully execut[ing] the office of President of the United States” when he extended amnesty to a whole class of outlaws any more than President Bush is proposing doing today with his “guest worker” de facto amnesty? In what way is welcoming an alien invasion preserving, protecting and defending the Constitution or even the peoples of the United States? Doesn’t his oath obligate him to do everything within his power to protect our borders, enforce our laws and protect the rights of citizens? How is President Bush NOT in violation of his oath of office?

Can anyone explain that to me? I mean without using nonsense?

And what of our congresscritters?

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

Again, does surrender to a foreign invasion (or aiding and abetting in the breaking of our laws and the violation of our borders, our national security and the rights of our citizens) constitute “fully discharg[ing] the duties” of a congresscritter?

BTW, besides congresscritters, the second oath is also taken by the vice president, cabinet officers, judges and justices, military officers, and all other civil federal employees. How then can any of them who do not forcefully and faithfully pursue arrest and deportation of ALL illegal aliens NOT be in violation of their oath. Where are the federal LEOs in all this?

Make careful note of those politicians who deem their oaths of office to be simply words, not binding contracts to be held to. Watch those who go whoring after plaudits (or attempting to avoid jeers) from Mass Media Podpeople by pandering to the noise demanding open borders. Look carefully at the words and deeds of those who have for many years done everything in their power to weaken this country. While I would suggest that the best solution for such behavior would be trial (and conviction) for treason, perhaps the best we can hope for is that you, and everyone you can influence, do everything in your power to throw the bums out!

Voting them out, petitions, even impeachment (and yes, as steadfastly as I have supported President Bush in the past, I am compelled to say that I believe his surrender to the invasion forces is a “high crime” indeed… *sigh*). Whatever we can do to get rid of them is not enough, and whenever we can get rid of them not soon enough.

And we–we need to keep our words true. Commit to working to throwing the bums out and work to make it so.

I could go for a better policy on illegal immigration, along the lines of the soft-on-illegals and those who aid and abet in their crimes (*heh*) policies suggested by Brian Bonner [N.B. Buster kindly pointed out in comments that it was he who authored the points below, and the post at The Uncoorperative Blogger was a crosspost from his blog, InMuscatine. Thanks for showing me the error of my ways, Buster!]:

  1. 70% tariff on all monies wired to Mexico.
  2. [too small a tarrif, IMO-ed.]

  3. Removal of punishments on employers for digging to find out if you are an illegal alien.
  4. Mandatory 25-year jail terms for employers caught hiring illegal aliens. [to this an all the following jail terms I’d add “at hard labor”-ed.]
  5. Mandatory 25-year jail terms for landlords renting to illegal aliens.
  6. Mandatory 25-year jail terms for bank officers loaning money to illegal aliens.
  7. Power of arrest given to any citizen who suspects someone is an illegal alien, just like in Mexico.
  8. Deportation without due process, just like they have in Mexico.
  9. Change the laws to reflect felony status for being an illegal alien, just like in Mexico.
  10. Change the laws to levy a minimum 10 year sentence of hard labor if convicted of being an illegal alien
  11. Change the laws to levy a minimum 30 day sentence for the author(s) and/or editor(s) who publish editorials supporting illegal immigration.

But I could do without even those slight improvements to the laws, if our President would require federal employees to actively, vigorously and stringently enforce the laws already on the books or face the harshest penalties allowed by law for violation of oaths of office, and if congresscritters and the administration worked together to actively and stringently guard and defend our borders.

It’s not enough, but it’d be a start. Just actually observing their oaths of office would palliate my outrage.

The Proper Display of the Mexican Flag on American Soil

N.B. I would never advocate disrespectful displays of a nation’s flag on its own soil. But since we have this (among other) example of reconquistadores’ view of the proper placement and display of the American flag on our soil…

Burn the one on top

…I’m prompted to offer this public service announcement suggesting proper ways to display the “Aztlan” flag on OUR soil. Sadly, I was unable to obtain a few Mexican flags for use in this demonstration (this is America’s Third World Countyâ„¢ after all) on short notice, so I simply printed some out for use.

…here’s an image of one way to properly display the Alien Invaders’ Flag:

Mexican flag? NO!

But I prefer this one:

Displaying Aztlan Flag

I have more, in various different states of disrepair, delapidation and distress. Feel free to manufacture your own and make free use of them today and on “Sinko duh Mayo”…

Oh, and Cinco de Mayo observances in the United States? When Mexicans in Mexico and the U.S. start honoring our Fourth of July properly, AND the government and citizens of Mexico begin to show a little respect for our laws AND our national anthem, I’ll consider hanging up my “Disrespect their stinking holiday/flag/national anthem hat.” Until then, let them eat… mayo.

Guard the Borders-Bloggers React to May 1 Boycott

Heidi, at Euphoric Reality, has compiled,

BLOGGER REACTION TO MAY 1 – A DAY WITHOUT LATINOS

Today is the much ballyhooed Day Without Latinos……otherwise known as Nothing Gringo Day…officially (yes, as in politically-official) known as the Great American Boycott of 2006: No Shopping, No School, No Work.

Amboy Times has some helpful advice for the title of these strikes/boycotts/stick-it-in your-eye rallies: “I recommend a less confrontational title, perhaps ‘Bite The Hand That Feeds You Day’ or how about boycotting all the free medical care, schools, and other government services? They could call it ‘No Payroll Taxation Means No Government benefits Day’ – hmm…a bit wordy, that one…”

Whatever the name, illegal aliens (presumably of Latino descent only, since this is all about THEM, nevermind the hundreds of thousands of illegals from Ireland, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, etc.) intend to show us that THEY are the engine that drives the American economy. They hope to wreak havoc on our economy to prove that we can never live a day without them because “THEY are America.”

May 1: Shopping Day/Open Post

This is my open trackbacks post for Monday, May 1. Link to this post and track back. And see additional information below my May 1 Shopping Day post.

Since today is the day the alien invasion is planning its insurrection demonstrations (and the day our blowhard political poltroon “rulers” are fluffing themselves and playing “Emperor’s New Clothes”), may I respectfully suggest that everyone who reads this blog go out and do their weekly shopping? Maybe make that large purchase you’ve been planning on for some time (yeh, Lovely Daughter: go ahead and buy that new car on “Boycott by the Alien Invasion Day”).

Oh, and do buy some Mexican flags to (stomp on, grind in the dirt, pour lighter fluid on and) burn on the Fifth of May, OK?

Just a friendly suggestion.

As I said, this is an open post. Link here and track back.

The B.S. Boycott

Oh, I wish it were possible to boycott all the B.S. out there (Mass Media Podpeople, Political Poltroons, Academia Nuts and other Loony Left Moonbats), but what I mean by the post title is that the boycott scheduled for tomorrow in support of reconquista is B.S.

*sigh*

Mayday

You see, the “boycotters” are asking permission from workplaces and schools for workers and students to take the day off… Some demonstration, eh? Yeh, a demonstration of employers who are illegal themselves caving in to illegal employees’ demands and schools that are little more than prisons for kids giving kids time off for… bad behavior.

Oh, BTW, I’ve scheduled a shopping trip for tomorrow. I figure it’s time I bought some Mexican flags to burn on May 5.

The Pachuco Hymn—Repair the wall and show the PH the door

Note: This is The second in the “Mending Walls” series, and is being crossposted at The Real Ugly American. Some of the following may depart a bit from Rick’s personal views. I know we have a few differences on rthe practical limits of immigration enforcement, for example. But this post is not about a border fence or wall, but walls and fences of a different kind. And yes, this does devolve into something of a rant.

You figure out from what follows where the walls need to be erected, where old walls need to be repaired and who needs to be shown the door and have a swift boot up their ass on the way out. The only way, now, I fear, to repair the walls, build up proper protections for American culture and even simply provide protectionm for our nation is to start simply, plainly and bluntly throwing the stupidity and the insults back in the faces of the invaders, the corrupters, the destroyers. never back down. No compromises. Hard lines.

Yeh, it’s all over the place. Even CNN and Fox have taken note! *heh* Seems some reconquistadores think rewriting our National Anthem is just hunky dory. No, not just translating it into Spanish. Uh-uh. That isn’t enough of an insult for them. They have to change the words and still claim it’s our national Anthem… only in kinda hip-hop-reggae-mariachi-rap drag.

But it’s not just insulting.

Here’s the real thing. Click on the mp3 file and sing along, if you want. (You’ll need to restart the mp3 file for each verse you want to sing with, though.)

First Verse

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro’ the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watch’d, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air
Gave proof thro’ the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say, does that Star-Spangled Banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Second Verse

On the shore, dimly seen thro’ the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream;
‘Tis the Star-Spangled Banner, O long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Third Verse

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wiped out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Fourth Verse

Oh, thus be it ever when free men shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war’s desolation!
Blest with vict’ry and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Pow’r that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto, “In God is our trust”

And the Star-Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

(Do note the lines with emphasis added.)

Not so the “Pachuco Hymn”… witness the dazzling wonder of its departure from translation to insulting parody:

Raning Cats n Dogs *heh*

Life. Quite a lotta rain the last coupla days. Mostly shut up inside. Not quite cabin fever, but the animals feel it, too.

Been keeping Buttons mostly inside since Tuesday the 17th, when he looked two ticks shy of doggie heaven. Oh, he seems perfectly fine, now. Wants to go for runs, not walks, etc., but the vet seems to think it’ll be another week or more before we can be sure it really was just a localized infection interfering with/placing pressure on his spine.

So, medium-sized “outside” dog learning about living indoors. Been mostly mannerly, well-behaved.

*Flip*

Our (once-was) boy cat loves to play fetch with some lil superballs. They bounce off things like crazy and he just loves chasing them and bringing ’em back to me to throw again. He even drops them right in my hand most times. Was playing fetch with Jaxson a while ago and… Buttons decided he wanted to play the game, too.

Surprised lil (once-was) boy cat.

*heh*

Now Jaxson’s just “throwing” the ball for himself.

Jicama Stix

Short n sweet.

Jicama, a legume, is grown for the large tuberous roots which can be eaten raw or cooked and are used as a source of starch. The jicama plant is a vine which grows to a length of 20 feet or more. The roots are light brown in color, and may weigh up to 50 pounds. Most of those on the market will weigh between three to five pounds._*_

OK, so I can find ’em around here at about 2-3 pounds. Go figure. Get the idea out of your head that they are anything like potatoes. They’re not. Jicama is good raw, cut into french-fry sized/shaped sticks or even as ~3″X1/8″ chips (with dips or just plain). But the Jicama Stix I make are fried.

Simple: peel a jicama root. Cut it into french fry sized and shaped sticks. Heat a cast iron skillet to medium hot (on my range, about 3/4 up the dial). About the temp you’d cook pancakes. Use a relatively high-temp oil. I use a mix of olive oil (relatively low-temp cooking) and peanut oil (very high-temp cooking). Seems to work, and the two oils have flavors that suit the jicama nicely. DO NOT use a lot of oil. If you use an amount you’d normally use for semi-deep frying french fries or hush puppies or the like, too much will be absorbed by the jicama, which is much more open pored than potatoes and the like. Use maybe 1/8-1/4 inch at most.

Fry the jicama, turning with a spatula or with tongs as each side browns. Drain well on paper towells.

The Jicama Stix will be sweet and of the consistency of limp french fries. Serve as a side dish with soups, sandwiches or whatever with ketchup, horseradish sauce, mustard or your fav creamy dip.

You can also spray raw jicama sticks with olive oil and back them at about 400 degrees F, turning them as they brown. Not quite as good, IMO, but still tasty and lower in fat.

Maybe there’s hope for one or two congresscritters

We’ll see. I found this email in my inbox from Jim Talent, Senator for Missouri:

Sen. Talent Opposes Senate Amnesty Proposal

The Senate is debating immigration reform. Many Missourians have contacted me to express their views on this issue and I wanted to share mine with you. This is a nation of immigrants, but it’s also a nation of laws. I oppose the amnesty measure being considered in the Senate. Congress should not give the benefits of citizenship to those who have entered the country unlawfully; and it’s especially unfair to put them at the front of the line ahead of those who have waited patiently for years to enter the country lawfully.

I share the concerns of many Missourians that the United States requires a border control system that protects us from terrorist attacks, illegal immigration, illegal drugs and other contraband. A lot of people view border security as an immigration issue. It’s not. It’s a national security issue. That is why I introduced the Border Security and Modernization Act, which authorizes $5 billion over five years for security fencing and surveillance along the border, increases penalties for human smuggling, and increases the number of jail beds available to detain those who cross illegally. I will continue to support strong and effective measures to secure the border.

We’ll see if he can stick to his guns. Somebody need to have the stones to tell the reconquistadores to pack their bags an go home. Either that, or this country needs to see what a Texas Tea Party looks like…

Hmmm, seems to me that someone has already written a book about a modern Texas secession

A State of Disobedience

Since we all know California (one of the other hardest-hit states) isn’t going to do anything about the reconquistadores, maybe it’d be for the best if Texas did secede… and annex Mexico.

Just a thought, since I don’t think a few seantors and other congresscritters swimming upstream will stem the tide (another mixed metaphor. I’ll hit my stride this week, yet!).
