What Do You Call a Gathering of “Maroons”?

Think Bugs Bunny’s infamous “What a maroon… “

Well, Woody was the first one to clue me in on the latest from that conspiracy of dunces, posting this,

This is the new logo for the Party of Voting Dead, Illegals and Felons? Oh, well. Woody then posted a number of more reasonable representations of the party’s real agenda and nature, even adding one based on a comment I made. I took that graphic representation and modified it as below:

Yeh, yeh, I didn’t do a really close color match to the original, but in my defense, it’s about 3:30 a.m. here… *yawn*

Words of Wisdom–Obviously NOT From a Congrescritter

Obviously, Jerry Pournelle will not be welcome in D.C. with commonsense thoughts like this:

We can legitimately argue over the desirability of government building programs and whether all that ought to be left to the market; but it seems to me that if government is going to borrow money and spend it, the end result ought to be something useful, not just spent money… Just spending borrowed money doesn’t seem to work well.

It certainly doesn’t for private citizens. It may well make sense for a man who has landed a job as a carpenter to borrow money to buy his basic tool kit, or even to buy a car for transportation to and from work. It makes little to no sense to borrow money to take a trip across country for vacation and relaxation, or to buy frivolities. Everyone knows this, or certainly used to. Apparently the government doesn’t really know it. And now we borrow money to fund entitlements, to build demonstration projects, local museums that no one is going to visit, increase salaries of government workers and to hire new government workers whose funding will then fall on the local community, and other such horrors. Spending borrowed money without a very specific [and useful to the general public–ed] purpose is nonsense.

Of course, “common sense” is anathema to the ignorant, preening, over-credentialed ruling class. “Ignorant”? What, aren’t they mostly products of “elite” colleges and universities? Yep, for the most part they are, and that’s one of the linchpins of their unassailable ignorance and institutionalized stupidity. I’m not by any means anti-intellectual; I highly approve of thoughtful consideration of issues and genuinely intellectual pursuits that enlighten, broaden horizons and improve the conditions of those who pursue them, as well as benefit society at large. But. That sort of intellectual behavior is the antithesis of what goes on in most colleges and universities nowadays–and especially “elite” schools.

Any soi disant Academia Nut Fruitcake Bakery “intellectuals” want to argue the point with me? Hmmm? See my Comments Policy for fair warning.

The Decline

Obama and his co-conspirators have one story, but the facts on the ground call them liars:

Devolution

Its seems, given evidence from D.C., that the Republic has devolved from republic to democracy to kleptocratic kakistocracy.

No. No links. I’d have had to do one per letter in each sentence in this post. Just read the “news” and weep.

(Of course, such a devolution was assured once our “feddle gummint” started down the road into a more and more democratic reality. See this blogs header for but one of the reasons… )

Christie for President?

Maybe it’s time for anorexic politicians to be pushed out of national politics?

Gov Christie calls S-L columnist thin-skinned for inquiring about his “confrontational tone”.

“Now, I could say it really nicely. I could say it in the way that you all might be more comfortable with. Maybe we could go back to the last administration where I could say it in a way you wouldn’t even understand it. . . . When you ask me questions, I’m going to answer them directly, straightly, bluntly, and nobody in New Jersey is going to have to wonder where I am on an issue. . . .”

We need more of this from politicians *spit* in general. No more bullshit.

Words I Wish “Feddle Gummint” Officials Lived By

All of ’em have to take this oath, but few, it seems, mean anything by it when they do.

I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.

Dumb Idea

The soi-disant “Tea Party Express” has come up with a stupid idea: raise $700,000 to offer to Bart Stupak to resign.

“If Bart Stupak is considering resigning then we want to do what we can to help him along in that decision. Exchanging your votes, principles and decisions for money seems to be the modus operandi for Bart Stupak. So how do we find $700,000 to get this corrupt and failed politician out of office, so that we can get a representative of the people, who respects the Constitution, to take Stupak’s seat?” asked Mark Williams, Chairman of the Tea Party Express.

I understand the thought, but it’s still stupid. Paying Danegeld only makes the “Dane” go away until he wants some more. Although Kipling was speaking of nations paying “protection money” to aggressors, the principle’s the same,

Danegeld

IT IS always a temptation to an armed and agile nation,
To call upon a neighbour and to say:
“We invaded you last night – we are quite prepared to fight,
Unless you pay us cash to go away.”

And that is called asking for Dane-geld,
And the people who ask it explain
That you’ve only to pay ’em the Dane-geld
And then you’ll get rid of the Dane!

It is always a temptation to a rich and lazy nation,
To puff and look important and to say:
“Though we know we should defeat you, we have not the time to meet you.
We will therefore pay you cash to go away.”

And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
But we’ve proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane.

It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
For fear they should succumb and go astray,
So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
You will find it better policy to say:

“We never pay any one Dane-geld,
No matter how trifling the cost,
For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
And the nation that plays it is lost!”
