Thirteen memorable lines. Some from poems, some from dramatic works and some from the greatest story ever told. In no particular order:
- Beauty, strength, youth, are flowers and fading seenâ€â€
Duty, faith, love, are roots and ever green . . . . - The queen, my lord, is dead… & etc.
- He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
- WE ARE very slightly changed
From the semi-apes who ranged
India’s prehistoric clay;
He that drew the longest bow
Ran his brother down, you know,
As we run men down to-day…
…As it was in the beginning
Is to-day official sinning,
And shall be for evermore! - Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can and
the wisdom to hide the bodies of those I had to kill because they really pissed me off. - …And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar. - Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. (A lil quote I reserve primarily for politicians *spit* and Mass Media Podpeople nowadays)
- …don’t call me Shirley.
- …I could not love thee, Dear, so much,
Loved I not Honour more. - …We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day. - “…who is my neighbour?”
Jesus answering said, “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves… “ - He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. - It is finished.

Nice choices! A few of my favorites are in there. I can’t tell you how many times I recite the Serenity Prayer to myself to remind myself to quit beating my head against walls – and for other reasons! 🙂
BTW – you’ve been redecorating! I like the new colors and look 🙂
My fave is no 6, and yes… don’t call me Shirley 😀
Have to admit I don’t know any of them. Or maybe I do, but then it would be in German or French, lol !
I love poetry and you picked some great lines! #5 made me laugh out loud!
Congratulations on being the featured blog!
My TT lists the 13 goals of a witch, with my thoughts and comments.
I’m going to have to remember #7 for those same groups. Thanks!
12 and 13 are my favs. I would also add — neither life nor death … you know that one. A thoughtful list. Thank you.
Thus, the artless songs I sing
Do not deal with anything…
Great list, David! 🙂
(Standing up… clapping) BRAVISIMO! Great list! I read Psalm 91 very often. #13 give me chills and makes me cry every time I read it.
Well done…
Hope you have a blessed Thursday…
Nice list!
Thanks for visiting my TT.
#9, as said by Rhett Butler to Scarlett O’Hara is something I will never forget. As a teen I thought that was so romantic.
Hard to pick a favorite, but it I have to, it would be #12.
Great idea for a list!
I always love quotes, and you’ve got some great ones.
Great list! Thanks for stopping by my TT!
