While checking for updates on the NT password recovery situation noted here, I ran across a reference to an interesting page (noted in the same post 🙂 that I went back to read in full later, as time permitted.
There, I found this gem, probably well-known in some circles but new to me:

Priceless. Some of the best work I’ve seen. One small example, an excerpt from The Book of Annoyances:
Annoyances: Chapter 2
Wherein The Gord refuses to sell controllers he doesn’t have.
“Do you have any used dual shock controllers?”
No I don’t.
“Yes you do!”
I do?
“Right there!”
Those are the controllers for the demo machine.
“And right there!”
Those belong to the rental units.
“Just sell me one of those.”
And what would I use for rental machines?
“You could open new ones for those. “
Uhm, no.
“Why don’t you have any used controllers?”
Because they usually only come in with a used machine. As such, I sell them with the machines.
“So sell me one of those.”
And sell the machine with no controllers? That’ll go over well.
“You don’t want my business!”
How about I sell you something I have in stock like a new controller?
“I’ll take my business elsewhere.”
Would you mind? I would appreciate that.
There are twenty-four other such examples, just in The Book of Annoyances. Then there are the other nine Books…

David, I’m not sure I understand your post (or your politics, ha!) but if there’s anything I can do to help with importing haloscan comments, feel free to drop me a line.
Justin, my politics are neither left nor right. I only vote for the least obvious liars, and have grown to have a distinct distaste for darned near alla the political parties out there: the Democraps for being such blatant liars and insulting to my intelligence to boot; the Republican’ts for being such wusses (and for being liars to boot, just less blatantly so); Libertarian Party, for being so very… Unlibertarian, etc.
In a choice among lesser evils, I am frequently forced to choose a republican’t cur, while bemoaning my sin.

It was the ftp publishing stuff that “broke” my blogspot blog. Couldn’t use it and maintain any control over what displayed at Blogger while maintaining my WP blog, AND Blogger was refusing to either update or recognize a switch back to publishing at Blogger.
The ONLY real reason I wanted to publish anything at my Blogger twc blog any more was to maintain a sort of “sticky post” at the top pointing folks here… but Blogger wouldn’t display it.
Eventually, after multiple repeats of the same procedures that Bloger said were working (but were not), it eventually came back online…
Now, my post pointing folks here shows up just fine.
As to importing the Haloscan comments, well, the export1.xml and export2.xml files generated just fine, but the import-haloscan.php function imported nothing.
*sigh*
I’ll keep trying, though, cos I’d like to have them on hand and associated with their respective posts, if possible.
Re: politics, everyone has an agenda, and there appears to be no accountability (or long term memory) in the mainstream media to keep politicians from lying or call them on it when they do. Unless you’re Jon Stewart, and he’s hardly mainstream. This must be why I like bloggers so much. Have you thought much about progressivism?
So you imported some Blogger posts into WordPress? In order for the import-haloscan.php script to work, each WordPress post needs to have the old Blogger post id embedded as an HTML comment at the beginning of the post body. e.g.

This is because the Blogger post ids are so dang long that they can’t be imported into the WordPress database. If you don’t have those Blogger post ids embedded in each WordPress post, import-haloscan.php won’t work.
I wrote a script to do just that after the initial import for WordPress 1.5 (available at the same URL you linked to above), but it was mostly a hack, and I’m not sure how well it works with v2.0. If you’re not talking a lot of posts (I see Sept through Feb in the archives on the left) it might be possible to add the post ids manually to WordPress and then try to run import-haloscan.php again.
Heh, WP turned the dashes in the HTML comment example into en-dashes. Oops. Let’s see if this works:

Dunno what the deal, cos I did everything step-by-step (I thought, although it’s obvious I missed something!) flipping from your site–tabbed in one window–to the windows where I was managing the migration.
I’ll review it all again, maybe try your script (or delete alla my blogger posts), print out a step-by-step checklist and go from there.
Are the XML files to be in the root, wp-admin or some other folder? Ah, well, I put them in those places AND a couple of others, just in case…

Interesting you should mention “progressives” cos my views are probably both MORE progressive (call them liberal in the John Stuart Mill classic liberalism vein that is philsophically closer to libertarianism than the Libertarian Party) and MORE conservative than either the “progs” or “cons” of the current political landscape.
In fact, the so-called political “progressives” of today are really largely reactionary, while the so-called “conservatives” are best described by this lil comment by R.L. Dabney concerning the conservatives of his (19th century) day:
“American conservatism is merely the shadow that follows Radicalism as it moves forward to perdition. It remains behind it, but never retards it, and always advances near its leader. This pretended salt hath utterly lost its savor: wherewith shall it be salted? Its impotency is not hard to explain. It is worthless because it is the conservatism of expediency only, and not of sturdy principle. It tends to risk nothing serious for the sake of truth.”
Well, Angel, I don’t think it’d be a prob for you. First, you don’t have nearly 2,000 haloscan comments to import (the WP “Import” feature works fine for Blogger comments). Plus, Wp did import alla my Blogger posts very well, and w/somewhere close to 1,500 posts (Haloscan comments didn’t start til I’d been blogging for seven months or so), no problems, for my lil blog import, you’d prob have similar luck. I think the problem I had for a while with the Blogger stuff updating was somehow related to my fluffing of the import of Haloscan posts, not anything else.
It’s changing over TTLB and Technoratti that’s proving to be somewhat troublesome.
I didn’t have much problem with TTLB. As I recall when I changed domain names it was Technorati I had trouble with.
