Two of the WORST Christmas Songs

This may surprise you. Two of the worst Christmas songs are extremely well-written pieces, and the iconic performances of these songs are extremely well performed. They’re just darned good songs, but NOT as Christmas songs,
because they have nothing to do with anything that’s genuinely about Christmas. That makes them subversive and destructive of genuine Christmas observation.

  1. I had to look hard to find song 2 (just a matter of pasting in the URL under the 1set video).

I fully agree with you here. The top C at the end of the 2nd one (albeit falsetto) was great, as was some of his technique but note his microphone technique (yes let’s pull it away from loud notes!)

    1. *heh* And I have NO idea how that “blockquote” tag got inserted I inserted that “blockquote” tag that negated th actual insertion of the video code. (Oh! And now that I eliminated the bad code. . . it shows up as playable only on YouTube anyway. *shrugs* ‘sway it goes, I s’ppose. . . ;-))

Yeh, the “Velvet Fog” was my fav performer for his style of music. Oh, Aretha could do scat nearly as well, IMO, but overall, despite his vocal handicaps, Mel Tormé was just fun to both listen to and to watch perform. And yes, he definitely loved his mic and it loved him: mutual respect. *heh* (BTW, the mic looks like it fits within the Shure family. Not an SM-58, but in that family, so his handling is right in line with its envelope.)

Here’s another sample (and yes, he began his performing career as a drummer–not percussionist, drummer:-)):
