Looking Toward 2012…

I have a suggestion for transparency in campaigning for The Zero, adapted from a graphic I ran across on FB:

Of course, complete transparency would attach this to a certified copy of an actual birth certificate, adoption records, Indonesian citizenship records and a statement that “Barry Hussein Obama-Soetoro is running for the position of unconstitutional holder of the office of the presidency of the United States of America as the illegal alien communist candidate from Kenya-Indonesia”.

(Yes, I do think that, given the millions he’s spent to deny the public access to his past, Barry Hussein Obama-Soetoro is “a fraud of monstrous size” perpetrated on the citizens of the United States of America by a coalition of the corrupt, stupid, naive, and deliberately disinformed.)

Veterans Day 2010

I usually post something different to this on Veterans Day. Not this year. Events over the past couple of years have brought back memories of the shameful treatment by our political elite of soldiers returning from Vietnam. Oh, the public–apart from some particularly toxic portions of the vicious left–isn’t spitting on Veterans and active military personnel, but the current White House and its co-conspirators certainly seem to find those who have chosen to genuinely serve this nation in the profoundest sense distasteful.

And that brings a couple of thoughts to mind, both from that great master who saw an earlier polity mistreat its military and make some profoundly stupid foreign policy mistakes. So, from Kipling:

Recessional

God of our fathers, known of old–
Lord of our far-flung battle line
Beneath whose awful hand we hold
Dominion over palm and pine–
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget – lest we forget!

The tumult and the shouting dies;
The captains and the kings depart:
Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice,
An humble and a contrite heart.
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget – lest we forget!

Far-called, our navies melt away;
On dune and headland sinks the fire:
Lo, all our pomp of yesterday
Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!
Judge of the Nations, spare us yet,
Lest we forget – lest we forget!

If, drunk with sight of power, we loose
Wild tongues that have not Thee in awe–
Such boasting as the Gentiles use
Or lesser breeds without the law–
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget – lest we forget!

For heathen heart that puts her trust
In reeking tube and iron shard–
All valiant dust that builds on dust,
And guarding, calls not Thee to guard–
For frantic boast and foolish word,
Thy mercy on Thy people, Lord!

And, though the general public has rejected the behaviors characterized below, you can be absolutely certain that the hard Left–and Barry Hussein Obama-Soetoro seems intent on proving himself a member of that hard Left–is well represented in those who are like the abusers of–

Tommy
I went into a public-‘ouse to get a pint o’ beer,
The publican ‘e up an’ sez, “We serve no red-coats here.”
The girls be’ind the bar they laughed an’ giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an’ to myself sez I:
O it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, go away”;
But it’s “Thank you, Mister Atkins”, when the band begins to play,
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it’s “Thank you, Mister Atkins”, when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but ‘adn’t none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-‘alls,
But when it comes to fightin’, Lord! they’ll shove me in the stalls!
For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, wait outside”;
But it’s “Special train for Atkins” when the trooper’s on the tide,
The troopship’s on the tide, my boys, the troopship’s on the tide,
O it’s “Special train for Atkins” when the trooper’s on the tide.

Yes, makin’ mock o’ uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an’ they’re starvation cheap;
An’ hustlin’ drunken soldiers when they’re goin’ large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin’ in full kit.
Then it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, ‘ow’s yer soul?”
But it’s “Thin red line of ‘eroes” when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it’s “Thin red line of ‘eroes” when the drums begin to roll.

We aren’t no thin red ‘eroes, nor we aren’t no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An’ if sometimes our conduck isn’t all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don’t grow into plaster saints;
While it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, fall be’ind”,
But it’s “Please to walk in front, sir”, when there’s trouble in the wind,
There’s trouble in the wind, my boys, there’s trouble in the wind,
O it’s “Please to walk in front, sir”, when there’s trouble in the wind.

You talk o’ better food for us, an’ schools, an’ fires, an’ all:
We’ll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don’t mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow’s Uniform is not the soldier-man’s disgrace.
For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Chuck him out, the brute!”
But it’s “Saviour of ‘is country” when the guns begin to shoot;
An’ it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ anything you please;
An’ Tommy ain’t a bloomin’ fool — you bet that Tommy sees!

En Passant…

Innocence might be bliss, but ignorance is hell. Or at least hellish. Witness the fix ignorant (and lazy and stupid and greedy and corrupt) voters have landed the U.S. in over decades of (nearly effortless *sigh*) “effort” to prove that,

“In a democracy (‘rule by mob’), those who refuse to learn from history are in the majority and dictate that everyone else suffer for their ignorance.”-third world county’s corollary to Santayana’s Axiom

The Law of Unintended Consequences

You’d think the “intellectual elite” would have at least a litle knowledge of history, at least. There’s nothing new about the Law of Unintended Consequences. In fact, the first Indian language to be classed as a “classical language,” Tamil, an ancient language indeed, has a phrase for “unintended consequences”.

(iracikam teyvikam)

“Unforeseen circumstances that may happen by royal authority or providence.”

The concept’s been known cross-culturally for millennia (well, except, probably, for in Islamic culture where reason is anathema), but is apparently unknown to our ruling elite.

Unless, of course, they intended to create the mess our country’s now in and are deliberately working to make things worse.

A Little Healthy Skepticism

Now, understand that I know the following is just one data point, and anecdotal at that, but nevertheless, for reasons that will become apparent, I view it as an important data point. And yes, I promise I will wander far afield from that data point before the post is over. Deal with it. 🙂

How many years now have we heard the litany that

  • cholesterol-clogged arteries lead to atherosclerosis and that leads to heart attacks and strokes AND that
  • ingesting cholesterol-rich foods leads to cholesterol-clogged arteries, etc.

Well, I’m not sure how many years that’s been, but I’m pretty sure it’s on the close order of four decades.

Now, here’s the anecdote.

40 years or so ago, I received an invitation in the mail from a county health department to be part of a cholesterol survey. Note: this was not a scientific study, but simply an epidemiological survey. Big difference between the two, although many conflate them. I dutifully responded, went in and had blood drawn and filled out a survey that detailed my diet.

I got called back to have my whole thing done all over again because, it turned out, my results did not match up with the expected results. Why? I’m not sure, but I have some ideas. You see, my diet was laden with butter, red meats, whole Guernsey milk (with at least a quart of cream per gallon), etc.–all the things that did not match up with the expected model, since my blood cholesterol levels were very low.

Now, I have no idea what they finally did with my data, even though in the retest my results on blood cholesterol levels were the same as before, but I have my suspicions. *heh*

My ideas on why my data did not match their expected outcomes are many, but a significant factor could well have been my age (early 20s) and activity levels (a couple of miles running and over 10 miles biking per day–minimum–in addition to a WSI class, working 30+ hours a week and full time school and social life).

But no. All the survey was interested in was cholesterol intake and lipid blood levels.

Even now, though, at a more *cough* advanced age, with a sedentary life style and food intake that wouldn’t satisfy the normal cardiologist, my cholesterol levels are only very, very slightly above the even more restricted levels sought today (yes, they do keep moving the goal posts, although doing so has demonstrated no significant effect on heart attack and stroke occurrences), well within the modern medical industry’s “OK” levels.

I suspect that, in addition to the activity levels and age I believe played some part in baffling the study’s sponsors ~40 years ago, some genetic component may also be at play. It’s interesting that my doctor asked, on initial survey, only whether my parents or grandparents had had heart trouble, NOT when. When I noted that half my grandparents had had heart trouble, I qualified it with, “One grandfather developed heart issues in his early 80s and the other, after 40 years of diabetes, eventually died of a heart attack at 88.”

A different spin on things once the conditions were defined more clearly.

Of course, my dad has had heart/circulatory issues for the past ten years. He’s 87, now. My mom’s had electrical issues with her heart for years, but since I’ve never shown any signs of similar issues, that’s a non-issue as well.

If I do develop issues when I’m in my 70s or 80s, so what? It’s called old age.

This one size fits all approach to health issues based mostly on epidemiological studies is simply stupid. But guess what? The “feddel gummint”–the same folks who apparently believe that the U.S. is Lake Woebegon and all children can be above average–wants to force folks into the world of Harrison Bergeron, where some sort of statistical average is all that’s allowed. Watch out for “Height Panels” to come along after Death Panels are well established, in order to literally reduce everone to the lowest common denominator…

Proposed Change to Oath Congresscritters Take

Just musing here…

This is pretty much the oath anyone entering federal employment must take, including congresscritters:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

My modest proposal would insert after “swear” the words, “I will first do no harm to the republic,” followed by “that I will support and defend…” etc.

It’d have no more force than the current oath does on that conspiracy of dunces who almost daily do harm to the Constitution and the republic it defines, but at least it’d be easier to point out to some of the dimmer sheeple how much in violation of their oaths of office they are. Maybe. There’s no way to plumb the depths of sheeple stupidity.

Never Forget

I’d like to see an electronic billboard playing this 24x7x365(.25) on a jumbo screen across the street from the site of the proposed Jihadist’s Cordoba House Victory Mosque in NYC:

Heck, I’d like to see it playing, along with an appropriate semi-permanent text message*, beside it on all sides of the proposed Jihadist’s Cordoba House Victory Mosque.

*For example, something like this:

Text could be varied by season. For example, during the Islamic new year, which celebrates Mohamed’s hijra (establishment of his warlord power in Medina), it could read,

“Happy Butcher of Medina Celebration, Pigdog Jihadists” or other epigram appropriate to the season that celebrates Mohamed’s massacre of 900 Banu Qurayzah Jewish men, the plundering of their goods, and the rape and enslavement of their women and children.

Update:

“A cult is any group uses psychological coercion to recruit, indoctrinate and retain its members. The group forms an elitist totalitarian society. The group founder leader is self-appointed, dogmatic, messianic, not accountable, has charismatic and narcissistic behavior issues. The group believes ‘the end justifies the means’ in order to solicit funds and recruit people. The group wealth does not benefit its members or society. Islam and their Allah is not a religion but no more than a cult political organization used to control their members to achieve worldwide conquest.”–John Tydlaska Jr. via Facebook.

Words of Wisdom–Obviously NOT From a Congrescritter

Obviously, Jerry Pournelle will not be welcome in D.C. with commonsense thoughts like this:

We can legitimately argue over the desirability of government building programs and whether all that ought to be left to the market; but it seems to me that if government is going to borrow money and spend it, the end result ought to be something useful, not just spent money… Just spending borrowed money doesn’t seem to work well.

It certainly doesn’t for private citizens. It may well make sense for a man who has landed a job as a carpenter to borrow money to buy his basic tool kit, or even to buy a car for transportation to and from work. It makes little to no sense to borrow money to take a trip across country for vacation and relaxation, or to buy frivolities. Everyone knows this, or certainly used to. Apparently the government doesn’t really know it. And now we borrow money to fund entitlements, to build demonstration projects, local museums that no one is going to visit, increase salaries of government workers and to hire new government workers whose funding will then fall on the local community, and other such horrors. Spending borrowed money without a very specific [and useful to the general public–ed] purpose is nonsense.

Of course, “common sense” is anathema to the ignorant, preening, over-credentialed ruling class. “Ignorant”? What, aren’t they mostly products of “elite” colleges and universities? Yep, for the most part they are, and that’s one of the linchpins of their unassailable ignorance and institutionalized stupidity. I’m not by any means anti-intellectual; I highly approve of thoughtful consideration of issues and genuinely intellectual pursuits that enlighten, broaden horizons and improve the conditions of those who pursue them, as well as benefit society at large. But. That sort of intellectual behavior is the antithesis of what goes on in most colleges and universities nowadays–and especially “elite” schools.

Any soi disant Academia Nut Fruitcake Bakery “intellectuals” want to argue the point with me? Hmmm? See my Comments Policy for fair warning.

No “News” Here

If we are to believe the Mass MEdia Podpeople Hivemind characterization of the “Restoring Honor Rally” last Saturday in D.C., we’d come away with something like the See B.S. report of a “mere” 87,000, as opposed to some other, grudging, reports of better than 300,000 (reluctantly noted by NBC, with hints of 300,000 KKK hoods just waiting in the wings for all the fat, white crackers to don).

Pictures, though…

A Tea Party face if ever there was one. Little girl from Arlington, VA, holding an American flag while attending the the “Restoring Honor” rally, organized by Glenn Beck, in Washington, on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010. How many lil white kids did the media find welcome at the Al Sharpton rally? *crickets chirping* Nope, no racism on the Left…

87,000? Well, there’s no B.S. like CBS.

And for a lil black humor *heh* here’s a screencap of CNN’s captioning gaffe, found at Michelle Malkin’s place:

As Malkin points out, three factual errors in one caption. A hat trick. WTG CNN! (Dumbasses)

Rethinking the Privileges of Our Ruling Aristocracy

In light of the massive disruption caused by Emperor 00 every time His Majesty *gag* invades his subjects’ cities, perhaps it’s time to reconsider the privileges we allow our ruling aristocracy, eh? As Jerry Pournelle puts it,

One would think that if the President is so afraid of the people that he will not allow ordinary citizens to drive on the streets while he is traveling from his hotel to a commandeered golf course helipad, perhaps he ought to stay in the White House guarded by mercenaries?

…Is it time to rethink just what privileges our ruling aristocracy automatically have?

And it’s not, of course, just the ruling aristocracy but their thugs who need to have their wings clipped as well. Consider the recent Blagojevitch “conviction” for “lying to federal agents”–the same thing the feds got Martha Stewart for when they had no case against her for so-called “insider trading”.

“Anyone who cooperates with federal officials in any way including exchange of pleasantries is betting five years that they are not out to get him. The proper way to treat these agents is with silence. Saying anything to them including the time of day or comments on the weather is a needless danger.”

Note that I’m not defending Blagojevitch. He’s a politician *spit* so of course he’s guilty of far, far worse than lying to federal thugs. It’s just that federal thugs are a far, far worse scourge upon society than petty scum like Blagojevitch.
