Sometimes, Specializing Is the Way to Go, Ya Know?

Onychorrhexis can be caused by many different factors, but it seems to be a generational thing in my case (maternal great grandmother, grandfather, mother, to some degree, older sister [confirmed] and me, AFAIK, in sibs). as a result, even after factoring in best nutrition, etc., the shorter I can keep my fingernails (and to a lesser degree, even toenails) the better. And that’s the primary reason my Swiss Army Knife has had nail care as its main function for quite some time. Since I also carry a multitool, its other functions are pretty much superfluous. So, replacing it with a specialty Swiss Army tool was the route I’ve taken. Like it.

Victorinox Folding Pocket Knife/Nail Clip

Still has tweezers, toothpick, scissors, and one small knife blade, so essentials for a SAK are covered. N.B. I did change out the dinky lil split ring for a larger, more substantial flat one so it’d be easier to attach and remove from my “belt loop” keychains. . . that I hang from belt clips for “pocket carry.”

Meanwhile, my daily carry Swiss Army Knife (I have others, of course) goes in my EDC bag. Just in case. ๐Ÿ™‚

OTOH, while specialization in one or two EDC tools is nice, I also carry a lot of other things on my belt and in my pockets (both 5 pants pockets and up to 16 vest pockets, depending on the vest). Things like my Zippo lighter and a small, WELL-sealed, cannister of lighter fluid, keys and meds, a small FAK, a pocket NT, notebook and pen(s), etc., etc., as well as a small revolver in a belly band (appendix carry).

Now, that revolver is kinda fun. It’s a 19-teens “made for smokeless powder” version of a 19th Century Smith & Wesson revolver, modded and manufactured by a second-tier (but still very goodan “old tech” version of a safety which is. . . sorta safe) with an empty chamber under the hammer. Yeh, it’s HIGHLY unlikely that I even COULD drop it on its hammer from its snapped-in appendix carry in the belly band, but still, wouldn’t want to perform an auto-appendectomy, now would I? *heh*

BONUS: the REALLY IMPORTANT EDC carry items are in my Emergency Sandwich vest pocket and my Backup Emergency Sandwich vest pocket. ๐Ÿ˜‰ (Hydration can probably be supplied out of my EDC backpack, stored in the car. Otherwise, Adapt, improvise, overcome by obtaining what’s needed for a SODIS “installation” in the field โ€“ a clear, preferably clean plastic bottle.)
