Bear with me a bit. It came to me, as in a dream, that this:

Just think about it.
Cattle, deer, etc., nurse for a while and then eat grass.
Lions nurse for a while and then eat cattle, deer, etc.
Our babies nurse for a while and then eat… baby food.
Eeewwwww! Cannibalism!

In a semi-related comment, doesn’t it seem a little odd that the baby on the label looks more shocked than happy? Granted, that’s a pretty good approximation of the look I’d give you if you expected me to eat that glop too.
I suppose it was A Modest Proposal to begin with, but I think that, over the decades, the “baby food” thing has gotten out of hand…
As to the very sensitive and perceptive baby who served as the Gerber model, well, wouldn’t you be as shocked as he to discover what Mom was feeding you?
