Known Knowns, Known Unknowns, and Unknown Unknowns

[I’m still not commenting about facts known/unknown about the LV shootings, mmmK?]

I’ve seen some folks blustering about how they would have reacted had they been in the target area in LV while shots were being fired. Unless you have previously been a “live target,” or in another situation threatened with legitimate (REAL) sudden threat of imminent death, just shut up.

Thatisall.

  1. Many years ago a friend of mine (we’ll call him “Mike”) and I were out doing some target practice in a wooded area off the highway in East Central Florida. We had driven our car out past shot-up kitchen appliances and furniture to an area with a handy berm where we placed our targets. We checked the area thoroughly and were preparing to shoot when Mike noticed something off to the side of our target area.

We went to check it out, leaving our targets in place and our car in plain sight. This took a few minutes, and as we were on our way back somebody else started shooting in our general direction. After raising a ruckus we convinced them to stop and came out into the clearing. They hadn’t even bothered to look around before they started firing.

That’s about as close as I’ve come. I don’t care to come any closer, and I have no idea how I would have reacted in Las Vegas.
