Ah! Life’s Little Pleasures!

After years of using an “old tech” 12-volt NiCad battery-powered string trimmer and suffering through the NiCad woes (finicky recharge cycles, maintenance difficulties during storage, progressive battery “senility” *heh* etc.), I’ve been enjoying some backyard cleanup using the new 20-volt Li-ion battery-powered string trimmer my Wonder Woman got me as a Fathers Day present. Really sweet.

Now, next on my list is the companion polesaw that uses the same battery packs. That would ease some of the tree trimming I need to do, and even cut down on the amount of ladder and climbing gear use for most of it.

Yeh, yeh, confesssion’s good for the soul and bad for the reputation. “[B]ackyard cleanup”? Late (very late–only a couple of days of Spring left!) Spring cleanup. I let all the “yard vine”–which I prefer to grass* in our back yard, since we use it only to form a backdrop for our decks and for some small gardening–grow up before cleaning out all the “Winter falls” from our sycamores. *sigh* Have to weed all that out (it’ll regrow quickly) in order to clean out the sycamore “falls”. Of course, then that means loppers and chainsaw cutting those branches down to size for disposal. *meh* Not that big a job, but something to do.

After all that’s done, just string trimming around the fence and suchlike will be a breeze with this new trimmer. Instead of taking ALL WEEK (trim-recharge-trim-recharge. . . lather-rinse-repeat) just to trim, I’ll be able to do it all in one pass. Very nice.

*I have left an area about 20’x20′ that’s still in Bermuda grass, just West of the lower deck. Mowing that’s not a big deal, really.
