"In a democracy (‘rule by mob’), those who refuse to learn from history will be the majority and will dictate that everyone else suffer for their ignorance."
Dick Morris, the slimy polpundit we all love to despise, has a new map of the current presidential race as he sees it. Caveat: this is a snapshot from a political junnkie’s take. Any relationship to real reality is largely a construct of his own imagination.
Now, keep in mind, The Obamassiah has been flaling around for a while trying to find some sort of issue he can fake speaking to with convincing “authority” and believes he’s found one in the economy. The degree to which he can convince people to believe his lies about his tax policy will be critical to his success. I think the degree to which McCain talks about the effects of his own tax policy and the degree to which Palin hammers the energy issue in terms of both the economy and national security will be key for them. Biden, of course, is of no consequence at all.
Actually, recent polls showing McCain within 5 points in New York (!?!), within 2(!!!) in Washington and closing even in Minnesota (now, that’s gotta be giving my Wonder Woman’s sibs a rash!) may be even better signs.
But. It all depends on how much McCain/Palin can overcome The Obamassiah’s lies and the Mass Media Podpeople Hivemind endorsement of those lies.
The critical factor that’s lost in all this noise: how is the presidential race, which gets almost all the airtime and ink, going to affect senate, house and state and local races? An encouraging note is how much Dhimmicrappic contestants are sliding away from identifying with or even mentioning The One. If (still a pretty big IF) McCain/Palin can overcome the lies, damned lies and Mass Media Podpeople Hivemind “news” to a significant degree, their Electoral College victory may be large enough to provide fairly sweeping coat tails. I’m unsure just how beneficial a Repugnican’t majority in one or both houses combined with a MCCain/Palin administration would be, though. Maybe I’d have to rely on a Palin check and balance on some of Juan Mexicain’s tendencies…
The End Times approach. I’m looking for the Earth to shudder (well, one sure went through the Hivemind collective!), the Sun to go nova and time to end!
Why? Someone at the LA Times (the LA TIMES, folks!) noted that Charlie Gibson twisted Sarah Palin’s request for prayer:
A video [this video, folks—twc.] shows Palin asking a group to pray that the nation’s leaders were sending troops to Iraq “on a task that is from God.”
Gibson, however, mischaracterized her as simply asserting that the nation’s leaders were sending troops to Iraq on a task from God.
Next up? Surely the sea will disappear… (Revelation 21:1), pigs will fly and Satan will open Hell’s Ice Rink on the Left Coast…
It’s the End Times, I tell you folks. Running for the hills won’t help. The LA Times, of all spore collectives… The Hivemind must have the vapors.
Let’s let this post begin with some Begala (rhymes with “Big Caca”):
I was in the middle of a Neil Armstrong Moment when I was on CNN Tuesday morning. Rather than let McCain and Palin get away with their lie, anchor John Roberts played a videotape of Sarah Palin in a 2006 gubernatorial debate in which she endorsed the bridge from Ketchikan to Gravina Island saying, “I’m not going to stand in the way of progress that our congressional delegation and the position of strength that they have right now.” Perhaps her supporters, noting Palin’s support for banning books, teaching creationism and doubting global warming will argue that for her, calling the bridge “progress” was her way of saying she was against it.)
Full stop. Would that be the “anchor John Roberts” who recently “slipped and said ‘we’ when asking [Begala] how Democrats should respond to Republican attacks”? Well, obvious bias aside, what’s the substance of Begala’s attack? As to the Bridge to Nowhere, see my previous post today, Mr. Begala (he won’t, of course. Its substance–Jim DeMint’s article–is in the Evil Wall Street Journal, the reading of which no doubt gives Begala a rash).
The banning books lie? Read this and weep, Mr. Begala. (note: the link is to a pdf) The first paragraph of the linked document suffices to demonstrate that Begala is a liar or a fool:
We at the City of Wasilla have received many emails and requests for information about “banned or censured” books at the Wasilla Library while former Mayor Palin was in office. We have no records of any books being “banned or censured” ever.
The emphasis is in the original.
And what of Biggaliah’s assertion that Palin supports “teaching creationism”? First, by simply and baldly stating a very genral assertion of contrafactual “trutherism” Begala is simply attempting to bias his readers’ perceptions of Palin as a whole. Second, by doing so, he’s attempting to impeach any arguments refuting his earlier assertion with this disingenuous, subtle ad hominem attack. But for anyone willing to do 30 seconds (or less) of fact checking, OK, maybe 45 seconds for a slow reader following up on footnotes giving actual sources, the “Palin wants radical fundie nutjobs teaching superstition in schools” meme falls flat.
Palin has not pushed for teaching creationism in Alaska’s schools. She has said that students should be allowed to “debate both sides” of the evolution question, but she also said creationism “doesn’t have to be part of the curriculum.”
As to doubting global warming *sigh*. From Begala’s other bloviations, one gathers he means anthropogenic global warming as opposed to heliogenic global warming. *heh* That being the fair assumption based on Begala’s consistent stance, one can only respond to his assertion that Palin is a “global warming denier” (or at least dounter) with a big fat, “So? So she’s rational and you’re not. That’s a crime?”
The less than 30 seconds it took me to read the “analysis” at Factcheck.org and click through to a primary source (“Palin has not pushed creation science as governor,” Alaska Daily News–Dan Joling, with references aplenty) would have served Begala well, had he any desire for truth–or even to NOT appear to be an idiot.
“And the trump card, why Americans will fall in love with her, she’s got five kids. How can you not vote for someone who has five children, including an infant. Some touching details about the infant: it has Down Syndrome, she had it when she was 43 years old, and it looks a lot like John Edwards.” –Bill Maher
Yeh, it’s true. I watched it, and Bill Maher does use Trig Palin to mock his mother… and make a slimy joke about how he “looks a lot like John Edwards.”
What? “[L]ooks a lot like John Edwards”? Implying what? Better be careful, Bill. Alaskans like the Palins (80% in a poll taken just last week) and a lot of Alaskans are better shots with their 30-30s than you are with your mouth… Just sayin’. Back in the good old days when men were men and things like Bill Maher were gopher food, comments like that wouldn’t stand.
[Aside: I once actually heard a judge in a Southwestern court say in jury instructions concerning a cattle rustling case–yes, a cattle rustling case, not 20 years ago–that “I’ve never known a cow that deserved to be stolen, but I have known some men who deserved to be shot.” The rustler got the fullest punishment allowed under the law, and the case was never appealed.]
Trig Palin’s dirty diapers are full of stuff with more class than Bill Maher.
I took a break from “the world” yesterday. Things to do, sleep to glom onto, etc. *heh* Back in the world again today and…
I discover the 24X7 Mass Media Podpeople Hivemind attack on Sarah Palin continues apace. *yawn* Not news. The Obamassiah (or The Dali ‘Bama, as some have dubbed him) selects the lame old hack Biden, and the Mass Media Podpeople Hivemind fakes an orgasm. Juan Mexicain selects middle America hockey mom, card carrying NRA member, dynamic first term reform governor of the state that provides up to 20% of the nation’s petro-energy needs and the Mass Media Podpeople Hivemind emerges from a stunned epileptic fit to initiate attack mode.
The announcement of Palin’s selection by Senator McCain last Saturday reportedly triggered outright laughter in newsrooms across the land, a nearly unanimous opinion that she would be a disaster for McCain. To the sort of people who believe themselves sophisticated citizens of the world and feel a sense of pride at saving the planet by purchasing carbon offsets, a woman who has borne five children is incomprehensible. Add in moose-hunting, a champion snowmobiler husband and a pregnant 17 year old daughter, and the phrases “white trash” and “trailer trash” are deployed…
The cheese-eating surrender monkeys of the Left just don’t get it:
She has the rarest of qualities: authenticity. Media and Beltway types can’t fathom what that is. It goes right over their heads. Not even on the radar screen. Her multiple facets — beauty queen, moose hunter, mother, member of an Assembly of God Church, and ferocious reformer of corrupt politics may baffle sophisticates, but ordinary Americans see all the pieces fitting together, and they recognize a type of person they know and love.
Heck, Palin may be one of the very few authentic Americans in politics, nowadays, at least beyond the local school board or city councilman level in small town America.
And she still has more executive experience than The Obamassiah, Joe Plagiarism, Juan Mexicain or that Abraham Lincoln, for that matter, had before his presidency. (Oops. Maybe I ought not mention the latter, given the mess he made of his administration.)
While I regularly eschew watching politicians *spit* speak, preferring to read the content of their (usually) blather to, urm, see if it has any content apart from polished vowels and consonants, I do plan on listening (carefully, for real content) to Gov. Palin’s upcoming convention speech. I’ve seen the one interview I referred to a couple of days ago, and I’ve read other speeches, “debates” (as much–or as little–as a media run “debate” for a political office like governor is a debate) and comments made by Palin, and so far, she’s the only one worth listening to in the presidential field. If her speech and behavior continues to match up with her record so far, it looks like I can cast a relieved vote for Palin in November.
…Palin’s years of elected executive experience beat out the rest of both tickets, even her own running mate.
Seems I’m not the only one who thinks that. 😉
Annnd… from a lifelong “progressive cos it’s cool” commenter (“Fallon”) at PajamasMedia,
…I have been struggling with this decision, too, but I will be voting for Governor Sarah Palin via Senator McCain because I feel she is a strong and accomplished leader who I respect. I cherish the thought that she will be a mere heatbeat away from the presidency. I will never agree with any candidate 100%, never have, but I now believe that character and personal integrity trumps image, and security trumps domestic issues.
Now that I have made my decision, I feel at peace for the first time since the campaigns began.
Amen, sister. 🙂

A mini-micro post inspired by a comment today that got me thinking about politicians *spit*, Mass Media Podpeople and others, from Neal Boortz’s Top Ten Thoughts for 2008:
“Some people are like a Slinky … not really good for anything, but you still can’t help but smile when you shove them down the stairs.”
