Saw this on the “home” page* for my lil toy 15.6″ Asus, an OK lil thing with notalotta horsepower but just enough for common tasks, and wondered…
“The ASUS P50IJ notebook is the best business computing companion you could ever own…”
Really? What about that sexy slave girl with the abacus over there? Hmmm?
*Yeh, one of the things that Asus doesn’t say–along with “the manual is only available in French” *heh*–is “You’ll be back here periodically when you need to update the designed-to-be-wonky-even-though-it’s-handy Power4Gear utility.” Crappy Asus utility… that is still better than the built-in Microsoft power management. *sigh*
OK, bitching about power management on computers is just too easy. I can recall being completely locked out of a desktop that Ubuntu couldn’t wake from hibernation. Had to pull the plug (literally), then boot to the command line and update the thing before I could load the desktop. Too weird. Never could hibernate that computer w/o problems… until I changed “flavors” of Debian-based Linux to one based on Ubuntu that had better implementation of some features–Linux Mint.
