Imbibio coffeinum, erog sum

Yeh, one of those days. Awoke too early after too late a night.

Imbibio coffeinum, erog sum: I drink coffee*, therefore I am.

*Actually, I believe–though I’m sure some reader with better Latin than I possess can correct me, “coffeinum” is Latin for “caffeine”. But… it’s where we get the word “coffee”** so…

**OK, caught me. It’s not where the word coffee comes from, but remember: 93% of all statistics are made up on the spot. *heh*

  1. You know more Latin and etymology than I do so I trust your translation. (Ha–fingers wanted to type entomology. You probably know more about bugs than I do also.)

  2. Actually, “coffeinum” is a back-formation, so etymylogically, “cafe” from the Turkish “kahveh” (apparently from an Arabic word which I will not use out of disrespect for all things Arabic *heh*–but mainly because, like almost all things Arabic, it was simply stolen from elsewhere) this is just a bastardization of Latin, AFAIK.

    But it’s close. 🙂
