New Hope

In nearly 40 years of cutting my own hair, I’ve discovered 2 things:

1. I’m no more or less likely to give myself a bad haircut than the barbers I went to before I divorced myself from the habit of letting someone else butcher my head and

2. haircuts are an expression of both new beginnings and… hope.

“It’ll grow out.”

  1. I sure would like to see a picture of that! I’ve been cutting my husband’s hair for 22 years. But I would never EVER do that to my own hair!

    1. Mel, it all started when I was in college and had just paid hard-won $$ (OK, won at poker from jocks–dudes NEVER learned how to count cards or calculate the odds the pot was ofering; besides, they were all “tells”) for a really bad haircut. Decided: next time, it’s on me. For the next few years, me and a safety razor were all the barber my hair saw. After that, I graduated to one of those hair cutting/barbering kits. Been through two of ’em and am on my third. My Wonder Woman’s even taken to doing her own after a few bad “dos” from the local third world county gals.
